Jaraguá do Sul - Fauna and Flora




With the support from the City of Jaraguá do Sul, Avina Foundation and companies in the region, the Institute Rã-bugio for Biodiversity Conservation is implementing in Jaraguá do Sul (SC) an interpretive center of the Atlantic forest (CIMA), unprecedented in the region, which should be an example for Brazil and abroad because the community is interested in protecting the natural heritage that belongs not only to Jaraguá do Sul but to all mankind.


Vegetation

With about 60% of the city located less than 200m elevation, the original vegetation of the lowlands were felled to make way for rural production. Currently, the vegetation consists mainly of sandbanks, mostly born in the last 30 years
 


Fauna:



Capivara: is a species of rodent mammal. It is the world's largest rodent, weighing up to 91 kg and measuring up to 1.2 m in length and 60 cm in height at the withers. The coat is dense, reddish to dark brown. 

Lobo-guará: is a species of canid endemic in South America 



Periquito: feeds essentially from seeds. The name doesn’t match any class and is used to refer to the smaller birds in this group.




Arara: has large, long tail and very strong beak
Gavião-pombo-pequeno: has white head and lower parts of the body
 Alouatta: Popularly known as baboon . It´s an animal who has a vocalization that can be heard from miles away and live in groups of 10 individuals on average



Gambá: is a marsupial mammal. In nature, has, as their main predator, the cat-eating fox, while in the cities, are often bowled over by having the vision dimmed the headlights and have little mobility. Defends itself by releasing a disgusting smell.




Sapos-cururu: In general, adults reach 10 to 15 inches long. their diet includes either living materials or dead materials.
Esquilo: mammals rodents that are small and medium-sized



Tatu: is a mammal that is characterized by the armor that covers the body



 
Jararaca: a snake that is up to 1.6 m, found in Brazil 
Cobra d’água: Distributes up from the southeast to southern Brazil, and is extremely common in the reservoir area. Are easily found in ponds, marshes, flooded fields and in almost any body of water.





Cobra cipó: The color of most species of the genus is a mixture of shades of green, red and orange, with yellow and black eyes.

 
Cobra coral: snakes that are small, easily recognized by their bright colors
